Spain

Spain has over 2.9 million acres planted in wine grapes, making it the most widely planted wine-producing nation, but the second largest producer of wine in the world, behind Italy and ahead of France and the United States.

The Rioja region is landlocked in North Central Spain and includes three sub-regions.

Tempranillo, a red wine grape that’s indigenous to Spain, is the dominant grape in Rioja.

Rioja wines are split into four classification levels: Genérico, Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva.

Wines from Rioja can be medium to full-bodied, with high tannins and rich flavors of dark berries, plum, tobacco, and herb.

Ribera del Duero is a Spanish Denominación de Origen Protegida (DOP) located in the country's northern plateau and is one of eleven 'quality wine' regions within the autonomous community of Castile and León.It is also one of several recognised wine-producing regions to be found along the course of the Duero river.
