Côte de Beaune

A key wine-producing district of Burgundy in the east of France.

The Côte de Beaune area is the southern part of the Côte d'Or, the limestone ridge that is home to the great names of Burgundy wine. The Côte de Beaune starts between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune, and extends southwards for about 25 km to the river Dheune. The trend of producing red wines continues from the Côte de Nuits to the north, down through Beaune, although the wines become lighter and more perfumed. Farther south lie the great names of white Burgundy such as Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.

PRODUCER; Established in the late 19th century, this family-owned Bodega in Villabuena village sources fruit from its own vineyards in Rioja Alavesa. Founded by Francisco Javier Solano y Eulate, the estate adopted Bordeaux-inspired ageing techniques. Today, under Juan Pablo De Simón and Milans del Bosch, great-grandsons of Francisco, the Bodega blends tradition with modern winemaking methods.

TASTING NOTE; On the nose, aromas of apple, melon, and yellow plum with floral notes. On the palate, it is balanced and fresh, with a long finish.

VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING; Hand harvested. Grapes from vines over 30 years old, planted in the highest areas of Rioja Alavesa, are cultivated in poor soils with excellent sun exposure. This combination results in full ripening while maintaining acidity. After hand selection, grapes are gently crushed. Must settles, ferments in new French oak casks, and small vats. Lees contact with weekly stirring enhances mouth-feel, shields from oxidation. Wine is fined, filtered, bottled without cold treatments.

GRAPE VARIETIES; 100% Viura
