Côte de Beaune

A key wine-producing district of Burgundy in the east of France.

The Côte de Beaune area is the southern part of the Côte d'Or, the limestone ridge that is home to the great names of Burgundy wine. The Côte de Beaune starts between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune, and extends southwards for about 25 km to the river Dheune. The trend of producing red wines continues from the Côte de Nuits to the north, down through Beaune, although the wines become lighter and more perfumed. Farther south lie the great names of white Burgundy such as Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.

Product Details

Following a career as an engineer, Laurent returned home in 1996 to work with his father, Henri (known locally as Monsieur Syrah), and in 2001 Laurent’s Irish wife Neasa joined the business. The ninth generation was secured with the arrival of their children, Sean and Alaina. Laurent Miquel owns over 200 hectares of vines in the Languedoc.

Details of production; ‘Solas’ is the Irish for ‘light’, and in French means ‘joy’, ‘pleasure’ and ‘enjoyment’. Laurent Miquel’s Solas wines reflect the purity, balance and light-handed approach that characterises Laurent’s approach to winemaking. To make the Solas Syrah, they used night-time harvesting, destemming, long tank and temperature controlled fermentation. The wine was aged for 6 months in oak barrels {20%).
Tasting notes; Solas Syrah is supple and generous with sumptuous red fruits and intense. The wine has spicy aromas of blackberry and violets.
