Côte de Beaune

A key wine-producing district of Burgundy in the east of France.

The Côte de Beaune area is the southern part of the Côte d'Or, the limestone ridge that is home to the great names of Burgundy wine. The Côte de Beaune starts between Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune, and extends southwards for about 25 km to the river Dheune. The trend of producing red wines continues from the Côte de Nuits to the north, down through Beaune, although the wines become lighter and more perfumed. Farther south lie the great names of white Burgundy such as Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.

Product Details

PRODUCER; The family estate was first established in the 1890s, but it wasn't until 1995 when Anne-Marie (daughter of Odette and Arnaud Achiary) and Jean-Marie Astart formally founded the Domaine les Hautes Cances. They chose to follow environmentally friendly farming methods and used a varied collection of old oak barrels to produce wines with a fabulous expression of the terroir. In 2019 the Domaine was purchased by the Amadieu family, of Gigondas fame.

TASTING NOTE; Aromas of white flowers, peach and herbs. Round and complex on the palate with a refreshing acidity and a long finish.

VITICULTURE & WINEMAKING; Sourced from plots on the terraces of the Aygues River, with soils composed of pebbles, clay, and fine sands. Hand-harvested in small containers. Direct pressing followed by fermentation under controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation is avoided to retain freshness.

GRAPE VARIETIES; 40% Clairette, 20% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc, 15% Viognier, 5% Bourboulenc
